Which students qualify for this program?
All undergraduate, graduate Arts & Sciences, School of Education, School of Business, and Law School students may use this licensed service.
How do I get Office?
- Go to office.wm.edu.
- Enter your W&M Username in the username field (example: tjefferson).
- Enter your W&M Username password. This is the same password that you would use if you are signing-in to Banner Self-Service.
- Follow the prompts to install.
- If at any time after downloading Office asks for your email address, enter your W&M Username and add @wm.edu to the end of it. Yes, use an @wm.edu address even though you are a student (example: tjefferson@wm.edu).
I already have Microsoft Office on my laptop. Should I get this, too?

Dell Optiplex 7010 Business Desktop Computer (Intel Quad Core i5-3470 3.2GHz, 16GB RAM, New 480GB SSD HDD, USB 3.0, DVDRW, WiFi, Windows 10) (Renewed) 4.3 out of 5 stars 1,020 $231.29 $ 231. Microsoft laptops use both programs and apps. All of them are accessible by clicking the Start icon in the lower left of the screen or by typing the name in the search field on the taskbar. A Surface pen, available as a separate accessory, can be used on all Microsoft laptops as a stylus.
Probably not. However, you may wish to use the W&M licensed version if you are currently using an older version of Microsoft Office. However, this Office 365 licensed version may overwrite any other instances of Microsoft Office on your computer. You may lose the version that you have purchased if you choose to install this one.
How many computers will my license cover?
You may apply your license of Microsoft Office to a maximum of 5 laptop or desktop computers.
What happens when I hit my limit of 5 computers?
Once you hit your 5 computer limit, you can choose to deactivate an old installation. To do that:
- Follow the same link used to download (link at the bottom of this page)
- Sign in with your W&M Username and password
- Click the gear icon in the upper right hand corner
- Select Office 365 Settings
- Click Software on the left hand side
- Click Deactivate beside the computer name you would like to remove from the license
I'd rather buy it.
That's fine. You can purchase a non-licensed version of Microsoft Office with a student discount at the Microsoft Store.
Must I be connected to the Internet to use Microsoft Office?
Not always. You may work and save your progress offline. However, to maintain your license, the application must connect to the Internet once every 30 days. Simply turn on your computer and open an Office program (like Word) to connect. If that connection is not made after 30 days, the license will expire, but will reactivate once you are connected again - as long as you maintain an active student status.
When will my license expire?
The license is active as long as you are an enrolled student at W&M (including periods of study abroad). So your license will expire either when you graduate or if you separate from the College prior to graduation.
What are the system requirements?
To run Office 365 (for PCs) your operating system must be Windows 7 or later. To run Office 365 (for Macs) your operating system must be 10.10 or later. Additional requirements can be found on the Office website.
Note: Using W&M's version of Office 365 ensures W&M support. We cannot guarantee support if you go through the Microsoft website to download the software.

This is the final version of the Microsoft Office 2010 productivity suite, one of the most historically popular and useful tools in the entire personal computing industry.
Microsoft Office 2010 Business and Home includes five of the most valuable productivity apps on the market, which are PowerPoint, Excel, Word, OneNote, and Outlook. There are additional Office apps that can be acquired through the Microsoft Office 2010 Professional Plus suite.
As the latest version of Microsoft Office 2010, this release features several improvements and new features compared to the original version. For instance, Word's context menu has been improved with a number of changes, namely the ability to see changes as they happen in real time as you select potential options. PowerPoint presentations can now support videos, and Outlook includes a new feature that helps remove duplicate messages. Excel now has the ability to work with small color charts inside individual cells.
Microsoft Office 2010 also saw the inclusion of a text translation tool, as well as a tool for taking and exporting screenshots. Users can also apply effects to any images that are used in any documents. One of the best new features of Microsoft Office 2010, however, is the ability to use SkyDrive to save an online version of any document you create. This backup works exceptionally well and saves space on your local system.
One of the most notable complaints about Microsoft Office in the past was that the apps seemed to take forever to launch, and many of their functions slowed down the individual apps to a snail's pace. That is no longer a problem in Microsoft Office 2010. The software uses fewer system resources than older versions, and that translates to better performance and less lagging.
There are a few minor changes to the aesthetics of each app in the Microsoft Office 2010 suite, but they are relatively minimal. For instance, the contentious Ribbon interface used by Microsoft is still the primary method of selecting tools and options, but it has been redesigned with a much cleaner and simpler style. The new 'File' button replaced the old Office button, and it now shows a full pane with options to manipulate the document currently open, as well as specific information about that file.
There is no denying that Microsoft Office 2010 is the top-of-the-line when it comes to productivity suites. It has a number of improved features that make it much easier to use than its predecessors, and it offers several ways to improve daily workflows. It is the perfect professional solution for any business that needs productivity assistance. While some users might not like the presence of the Ribbon interface, it is certainly a big improvement over the original Ribbon interface, which was truly problematic.
