Starcraft 1 Windows 7
StarCraft doesn't always work under Windows 7.
- 9/10 (67 votes) - Download StarCraft: Remastered Free. StarCraft: Remastered is the updated version of Blizzard's game for Windows PC that now comes along with greater graphics and new dialogs and sounds. The video game development studio, Blizzard Entertainment, was founded back in 1991.
- On a side note, when I bought my Battle Chest (12 years ago), the first disc was StarCraft and the second disc was the Brood War Expansion. Starcraft should install independent of Brood War while Brood War depends on Starcraft, much in the way that Heart of the Swarm and Legacy of the Void expansions for Starcraft II require that you own Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty.
Download games and applications from Blizzard and partners.
The biggest issue is color-pallet corruption.
StarCraft expects to be ran at 640x480, 256 colors, and with nothing else on top of it. Unfortunately, it seems like Windows 7 forces the Taskbar on top of any running application.
One 'fix' is to kill Explorer, so that you don't even have a Taskbar to worry about.
You can create a batch file to run StarCraft similar to this:
(Change the path to where you have StarCraft installed on your system.)
Name the batch file something like 'StarCraft.bat' and place it in your StarCraft folder.
Make a shortcut to that file on your Start Menu or Desktop or wherever. Change the icon of the shortcut to use the icon from StarCraft.exe, and set the shortcut to run Minimized (so that you don't have to see the black command prompt box flash on your screen when you run the shortcut).
Of course, killing Explorer may not be the best thing. Desktop customization or settings may be lost, icon placement altered, running programs may not show up in the system tray after restarting Explorer, etc.
There is another method you could try. Supposedly, Windows 7 has compatibility mode options built-in for version 1.15 of StarCraft. The current version (as of the writing of this) is 1.16.1.
Some people have recommend using the 1.15 compatibility mode settings but with a registry key name pointing to the newer version of the program.
Copy the following text and save it to a file name such as 'StarCraft.reg':
Double-click the registry file to import the settings into your registry. The updates are for both 64-bit and 32-bit Windows.
Here are a few compatibility mode options you may want to set for the StarCraft.exe as well.
Here is the end-result you want to see under Windows 7:

Windows 7 PC Freezes After 30 Minutes - Winamp Music Keeps Playing
May 28, 2011I am running Windows 7 Pro 64bit and have not installed any new software apart from The Witcher game a few days ago. Now after 30 mins of switching the PC on the pc freezes but the music from winamp keeps playing and the mouse is able to move. Only option is to do a hard reset of the machine. Could this be a hard drive fault?
Computer Freezes Every Five Minutes Or So While Playing Games Or Running Firefox?
Jul 23, 2012My computer freezes every five minutes or so while playing games or running Firefox. It's been doing this for the last 6 months and most of the time it freezes for a few minutes then runs fine for a while. Then it freezes again. Eventually I have to hard reboot.
Everything Freezes After A Few Minutes
Apr 13, 2012It all started yesterday, while I was browsing the net my computer suddenly froze and got a bluescreen. When it rebooted everything looked fine during startup except that it froze after a few minutes again. During the freeze I can move the mouse, but I can't open any programs, and any programs that already are open stop working. Can't ctrl+alt+delete or do anything else than reboot the computer by pressing the start-button.
I didn't visit any websites that I haven't visited frequently these past weeks so I don't think I've gotten anything from them. When I start in safe-mode the same thing happens after a few minutes, cant start any new programs, and any programs that already are active stop working.

PC Freezes Every Few Minutes?
Jun 22, 2012my pc right now (2-3 years old) is slow as hell and freezes every few minutes for 1-5 minutes. i just did a clean install 2 weeks ago and it is still like that. i have a 465gb hard drive and 230gb of it is currently free (i am making videos with my friends and we have a gaming channel on Internet what is doing pretty well right now so 150gb is taken away by videos. i delete them right after making them so most of the time the hard drive has 380+ gb free)
also if this matters than i should currently be dual booting my win 7 with ubuntu but 1 day the ubuntu folder from my local disc was deleted (i have no idea how, 1 day it was just gone) and since then it doesnt let me choose to go into ubuntu. is it completely deleted or some parts still remain and is there a way to uninstall/delete those parts.
this is all the information about my computer (i think) i took that from speccy so probably there is alot of information that is useless for you but still.

Computer Freezes After Two Minutes
Jul 26, 2012I have a dell inspiron N4010 windows 7 operating system and for some reason, after two minutes of me logging on to my computer the screen suddenly dims, the mouse disappears, and the entire computer freezes. No matter how many times i restart my computer the same thing happens. I don't have this problem though when i'm in safe mode. but when i'm in safe mode, i don't have access to my virus detection software, so i can't scan for a virus either in normal or safe mode.

The computer is freezing when im watching videos with VLC and i cant even restart it with ctrl + alt + del because it doesnt respond, so i must restart it manualy pressing the reset button.
Some weeks ago i bought a new PSU (coolermaster silent Pro M 500w) but i think its not related to that because untill yesterday all was fine.

Win 7 Freezes A Few Minutes After Start Up
Nov 6, 2009I just upgrades to Windows 7 64 bit from Vusta 64 bit 2 weeks ago and it has been working fine until the last day or two. Since then, the computer has started to freeze within 2 or 3 minutes after it starts up. I even tested it and it will still freeze on the log in screen. When the system does freeze, sometimes the mouse will move temporarily, but it will usually stop moving altogether.
Also, the keyboard will not work and any sound that was playing at the time of the freeze will loop or just go crazy. The only things I have that run when the system start up is AVG Anti-virus, Precision (my overclocking/ fan speed tool), and Spybot Search and Destroy + Teatime.
I can't think of anything that I downloaded or installed before this happened and I think it just started out of the blue. I never had this problem with Vista, so I don't think it is a hardware problem, but I can't do anything while my computer is like this. Does anyone have/had similar problems or know how to fix mine?
My specs are:
AMD Phenom II X4 955(3.2GHz) 64 bit Quad-Core Processor
8GB DDR3 1333 RAM
1TB SATAII Hard Drive
NVIDIA GeForce GTX-275 896MB
Integrated Sound card

BSOD While Playing Games Or View A Video After 6-30 Minutes
Jun 2, 2012my computer did have BSOD problem since I've tried to add 2 GB of RAM on my Windows XP SP 3 on October 2011. BSOD came out after playing a game for 6-30 minutes (or game application crashed) or viewing a video (random occurence). After getting no results of all to cure BSOD, I decided to change my OS to Windows 7 and I still got this problem. I've tried to bring my CPU to service center with no luck at all.
Here, I attached my recent dump and perfmon report with it. Although a few hours before I post this thread, I cleaned earlier dumps with CCleaner. I'll be sure to attach new dump and report if another BSOD occurs. And let me know if my attached files get corrupted or cannot be read. Attachment 214777 Attachment 214778
Oh yeah, another thing, my antivirus scanner detected BSOD & System File Collection app as a virus, so I ignored it.
So my computer spec is :
Windows 7 x86 Ultimate
Intel Core2Duo CPU E4600 @ 2.40 Ghz
2 GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460 SE

Windows 7 Ultimate Freezes For 2 Minutes?
Starcraft Windows 10 Fix
Mar 11, 2012On a random basis Windows 7 freezes for about 2 minutes, then proceeds with the activities in normal fashion. The operating system and software is on a Solid State Drive while everything else is on a hard drive. I have troubleshooted all the normal suspects but cannot find the reason for the temporary freeze.
Laptop Constantly Freezes Every 2-10 Minutes
Dec 9, 2011[code] Since purchase, every 2-10 minutes the laptop will freeze for 2-4 minutes during which in some instances I'll be able to move around with the mouse and switch tabs in chrome, but not much else, and in other cases it will be a complete freeze.
Windows 7 Freezes Constantly Every 5-10 Minutes?
Jun 26, 2012I have a Toshiba Satellite L305 Series laptop. It is a Intel Celeron, with 2GB of RAM and 146 GB hard drive space and it is Windows 7 Professional 32-bit. Every time I turn it on, it works normally, but then it freezes every 5-10 minutes and I have to turn it off by pressing the on/off button and when I turn it on again, same thing works and then freezes.
Computer Freezes After 8-10 Minutes, BSOD Follows?
Jul 1, 2012I have a fairly new computer (14 months) that never gave me any problems until recently. My computer will 100% freeze after roughly 10 mins of use (doesnt matter what i do in the 10 mins). I'm running windows 7 home 32 bit, i5 quad core (cant rmb alot of details, will dig up more soon), asus p8p67 mobo, wd 1tb green and 4gb ram.
The only way to 'unfreeze' my computer is to restart it, if i leave it as it is without restarting I'll get a BSOD that says 'KERNEL INPAGE DATA ERROR'
error code: STOP: 0x000000F4 (0x00000003, 0xA16DE4E0, 0xA16DE64C, 0xE3060200)
PC Freezes Minutes After Waking From Hibernate 7 RTM
Aug 14, 2009I am running windows 7 Ultimate rtm on an Acer Aspire 5515 and it goes into/wakes from sleep mode just fine. However when waking from hibernation, it logs in fine and then a minute or two later, it freezes forcing me to hold down the power button to shut it off. When booted back up, of course i get the option of going into 'safe mode' hit start normally and everything is fine.
I could just not use Hibernate but it would be convenient if when going to school, i could use hibernate so I still have all my battery power when i resume since sleep still uses a little of the battery up. Is there a fix for this or is it just a bug M$ will have to eventually fix through updates?

Apr 16, 2012It if very annoying because I am trying to do shit and then my screen will freeze for a few seconds, then go black for a few second, then flashes a couple times, and then starts to work again. the entire process takes about 15 to 20 seconds. The error message that comes up says

Laptop Freezes A Few Minutes After Start-up
Apr 8, 2012A few months ago my Laptop went freezing from times to times, for a few minutes and then un-freeze, to freeze again a few minutes later. So wondering what to do, I formatted my laptop to solve that problem. Sadly it didn't worked.
Having work to do i was forced to run my PC on Safe Mode for a couple of month. After a while I decided to go 'legit', again and I realized that my PC froze a few minutes after start-up but after a couple of hours, it would run smoothly for days. So the past few months my PC was running smoothly,... until recently, but now, it's worst than ever.
It freezes a few minutes after start-up... and even if I keep it on for days, I still can't do a thing, it un-freeze for like 2 seconds sometimes, then just to freeze again. It's driving me crazy. I'm planning to buy a new PC but I'm stuck with this one for a little while now, might as well try to do something with it. I don't think this is a problem of program or anything like this since even after I formatted it, I still had the same problem. Is my laptop just dead? (I'm on safe-mode right now).
So here's my specs-
Toshiba Laptop
Processor: AMD Athlon 64 x2 Dual Core TK-57 1.90ghz
Ram: 3 Gb
System : Windows 7 home premium 32 bit
Windows Rebuild Freezes After Five Minutes
Nov 3, 2012I have Toshiba Dynabook that I bought in Japan. It originally had Vista on it, but recently I yanked the hard drive out and replaced it with a new one and installed windows 7 on it. I installed all the drivers it required using driver max and windows update, but it keeps freezing randomly. I ran the disk error check and no change and I tweaked my boot up to only run needed programs. I'm pretty sure it's not an overheating issue because it will run for hours when installing the os. I've already spent more time than I wanted to invest in this and am ready to smash the computer.

Windows 7 Freezes A Few Minutes After Startup?
Jan 14, 2013I am new to the forum and seeking help.I recently experienced a bad boot sector on my HDD and had to reinstall Windows 7 (x64). I then also installed Ubuntu 12.04. Since then, when I load up Windows, it will start up, load icons, gadgets etc, but then within a few minutes it will freeze and I have to do a hard reboot. Ubuntu doesn't do this. If I don't hard reboot I get a BSOD.I am pretty sure Windows was not a bad install or anything. I assume it's probably because Windows uses more resources than Ubuntu.Could the damaged hard drive cause a problem like this or can I assume I also have problems with the graphics card or the RAM?Windows freezes in normal mode and normal mode with low resolution. As far as I can tell it does NOT freeze in safe mode, unless I've just not been using it long enough. Does this sound like the sort of problem a driver could cause instead of a hardware problem?
Playing AVI Movies - Video Stops For Couple Of Seconds After Every 3 To 5 Minutes
Nov 28, 2011I am having a problem while playing movies in AVI format. Video stop for a couple of seconds after every 3 or 5 minutes. My drivers are up-to-date. Having a laptop with high specifications...so no problem about low specifications and same movies run perfectly on other laptops.
Whenever Turn Laptop On And Log On / A Few Minutes After Logging On It Freezes
Feb 4, 2012I have a HP Pavillion DV6 laptop. Whenever I turn my laptop on and log on, a few minutes after logging on it freezes. Cant access anything, have to restart it. When turning on I gave it a scan by pressing escape and on the HP checks, the hard disk check it failed. Tried going into command prompt and doing chkdsk /f but get what's shown below.Checking file system on C:The type of file system is NTFS..One of your disks needs to be checked for consistency. You may cancel the disk check, but it is trongly recommended that you continue.Windows will now check disk.Cannot open volume for direct access. Autochk cannot run due to an error caused by a recently installed software package.Use system restore feature from the control panel to restore the system to a point prior to the recent software package installation. I can get into safe mode but that's all I can do.Would it be a good idea to reinstall windows, although I did it not that long ago (in the last two months or so) ? Or is there any programs that could save a hard drive. I really don't want to buy a new one. I've bought the laptop in Summer 2010 so its not too old. Although I think the vans sound quite loud and it overheats quite often, but I cannot take it off to get to them.
Windows Installer Freezes And The Resumes After 10-20 Minutes
Apr 8, 2011Since my fresh install of Windows 7 Ultimate x64 (SP1) - whenever I install software, the windows installer will hang or not respond for long periods - then it comes back to life, installs a bit more, then freezes again - sometimes it can take up to 10-20 minutes to install a normal program!
Dell Inspiron 1545 Freezes After Several Minutes?
Nov 5, 2010About a week ago, I was stricken with a BSOD, can't remember the error code. After that, the computer ran like crap. Even in Safe Mode, it ran like crap, constant freezing after about a minute after boot up. I did a little research and found that registry errors can be responsible for this, so I ran a couple different registry cleaners and it seemed to have done the trick. A couple days later, it went back to running like crap.I did a complete reinstall of Windows 7, and still runs like crap.Every time I boot up in normal mode, after about five minutes, the computer freezes up. The mouse pointer still moves, but is unresponsive to function changes. Meaning, the pointer doesn't change from arrow to hand to I-beam, etc., and clicking does nothing. I don't even get the '(Not Responding)' tag in the title bar of the software. Ctrl+Alt+Del does next to nothing. The best result I get from it is a blank, black screen, and I have to shut down manually by holding down the power button, which is the case 100% of the time, black screen or not.The computer runs perfectly fine in Safe Mode with Networking. I'm writing this post on it right now.Someone suggested I remove one RAM stick at a time and test the computer with one RAM stick in, changing it from one slot to the next, then testing the other stick. Did that. No results.
Windows 7 Freezes Upon Login But Returns After 7-20 Minutes
Oct 12, 2012I have a problem with 2 Windows computers located in 2 separate locations. When I login the computer will run for 1-3 minutes and then freezes for 8-20 minutes. After it returns from it's nap everything runs normally.
I have been told that their is no malware on the computer, see this topic --[URL]
when I first reported this on the Windows 7 forum about a month ago the freeze was 7-8 minutes, last time I rebooted and logged in it froze for 20 minutes.
Pc Freezes Every 2 Minutes And Takes Too Long To Startup
Jan 22, 2012My computer was superfast until it started giving problems. It literally takes 30 minutes to start up and it freezes every 2 minutes. The Windows Experience Index showed a rating of 7.9 for the processor but now it only shows 4.9. The pc is quite new, I bought it 19 months ago.
Here are the specifications:
Motherboard - Intel Desktop Boards DH67BL Media Series
Processor - Intel CORE i5
Hard drive - Western Digital 500GB
RAM - 2 Kingston DIMM 2GB DDR3 (4GB)
OS - Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit
How can I fix my pc or at least stop it from freezing.
