Introduction

Have you been murdered recently? I mean, like actually shot in the face or blown up by a nuclear holocaust? If so, then I doubt you are reading thisright now. But, if you would like toexperience those things without real pain or the sting of death, then youshould be playing Call of Duty 4! Mystatement might seem a little tongue-in-cheek, but it’s closer to the truththen you can realize from just reading a review. If you have a good home theater, then yourtime spent with CoD4 is beyond gaming entertainment, it’s a moving emotionalexperience.

Visuals

Wheredo I begin? The graphics are on a levelunlike any game I have played before.Sure, there are titles like Far Cry, or previous incarnations of Call ofDuty that seem real, but Infinity Ward have outdone themselves! This is THE most realistic first personshooter out there today. Yeah, you PCguys might be calling out “Crysis” in the distance somewhere, but it takes apretty hefty computer to play it and have any decently realisticexperience. I am playing CoD4 on my Xbox360 after all! Most high-end PC video cards costmore than my entire game console... But Idigress.

Playing the game, you can see a lot of detail in everything from the blades of grass,to the texture on the walls, to the face of the dog that just throttled yourthroat. The color schemes of the variouslandscapes seem very appropriate as well.In the desert towns, there are beautiful golden hues that project the heat of the surroundings.Alternately, in the mountains, cooler temperatures are communicated with the shades of bluethat fill the display. The contrastin CoD4 is also fantastic! In darkbuildings there is just a hint of what’s around you. Of course, Infraredgoggles can be turned on, allowing you to sneak up on enemies in the dead of night.

Fire looks fantastic, the weapons look fantastic, the buildings look fantastic, the ground looks fantastic, the explosions look fantastic, the vehicles lookfantastic… Did I mention that the wholegame looks fantastic? Actually, it’s allfan-freakin-tastic!

Editor's Note: We have used up our quota of the word 'fantastic' for the remainder of this review. - Clint DeBoer

Sound

Ofcourse, beautiful graphics alone don’t make the game. The sound in CoD4 is also excellent! I am feeling sorry for many of the PC guys rightabout now. Though I have a small 7.1 setup on mypersonal computer, only a full home theater will do thisgame justice. You have GOT to hear thisgame! The music, the effects, thevoices, etc. All magnificent!

Most games give you a plot that feels kind ofso-so, then they throw in some half-baked voice acting and some cornymusic. Not so with CoD4! The voice acting is pretty good and theactors believably lead you into the main plot. Walking around your team members and on the battle field, the dialoguetracks realistically though the surround speakers. Also, the music is intense at times andlighter at others. Some of themusic has incredibly deep bass that can be felt more than heard - with the right sub. The music seemed to be atthe quality of a good CD and I wasn't particularly aware of the overt use of compression. The sound effects trulyengulfed me during play and firearmshad some good punch, as if I truly held them in myhand. In the middle of thebattlefield surrounds allowed the bullets to literally fly right by your head. Sound alone could convey from where you were being shot. The explosionsproduce a lot of deep bass, thougheffects were very subtle. There wasn't a lot of mid-bass punch, but rather the low-low bass that is more felt than heard. It would have beennicer to have a little more mid-bass sonic punch, especially considering thatmany consumer level subs don’t actually reproduce the subtleties of 20-30Hzfrequencies or lower. But if you are oneof the lucky ones with a nice big sub or two, you’ll like the way it feels!

Gameplay

Yes, I have been raving about the audio and video, but how is the gameplay? It’s WAR! Yes, that’s right, pick your favorite warmovie, then picture yourself as the main character. Now, put yourself in the middle of the actionand fight! To be honest, I am not a hugefan of the war movies or war games, but CoD4 made the experience so real thatI wanted to play more and more; even when my neighbor, Chris Seymour (of SeymourAV.com) kept pounding my face intothe dirt. Put my frequent death out ofyour mind for a moment, and we’ll step into thefirst person scenario...

In thesingle player mode, you play several different characters and move in and outof their roles as you fight, kill, and die.Not only is this a first person run-and-gun game, but you get the opportunityto be helicopter gunner or even leader of a foreign nation for a brieftime. The game felt similar to theprevious Call of Duty titles, but was much more engrossing. The realism of the graphics and sound bringyour emotions in play and drive you on to fight the enemy and protect yourown. Of course, there are sweet guns, lotsof grenades, stabbing, and lots of dying.Did I mention that you can shoot through walls with certainweapons? That adds a whole new level ofstrategy! Again, it’s war, so what canyou expect? The first night I played, mywife watched for a while and even she was sucked into the action. Of course, I kept playing past her bedtime. As she headed up to bed she said“Come home safe” as if I was really in some foreign war. *grin*I do have one complaint about the single player scenario… It’s too short! Yes, an experienced FPS player will probablycomplete it in the 5 to 7 hour range.Oh, and when you do finish it, be sure to watch the entire set ofcredits. There’s a little bit more atthe end that you won’t want to miss.

Ok, back to me gettingmy face pounded into the ground… That’sright, I’d like to talk about the multi-player game. There are two ways you can do this, on XboxLive, or locally. When you play a localgame with up to 4 players per 360, you get quite a few weapon options that youdon’t have when you play online. Yeah, Iknow, that seems kind of odd, but they have figured out a way to throw in someRPG elements to the game. You see, asyou play online, you level up your character and you can create your own classwith new weapons, grenades, and some special items, as well. It’s kind of cool how they do this, but itmight be a little frustrating when you first start online as you get pwned bythe masters with the cool stuff and you are just a little guy running for yourlife. I do like the weapons and theclasses seemed pretty balanced for local play, however. I wish there were more multi-player maps. Only 9 are provided for local play, but half adozen more would be great. There are more maps if you play on XBox Live. Of course, Iam sure there will be more in the near future, but I doubt they’ll befree. In any case, there is plenty ofgreat terrain to hide in, jump over, blow up, and die in.

Riot Games have responded to the constant questioning about whether Valorant is coming to PS4 and Xbox One.

Valorant is launching its closed beta today before the game fully launches on PC in the summer, but PlayStation 4 and Xbox One loyalists are left in the dark as they won’t be able to enjoy the multiplayer mayhem. However, although console gamers won’t be able to enjoy the beta or the game come summer, Riot Games have suggested that there’s hope for it coming to Sony and Microsoft’s platforms in the future.

In response to a PS4 and Xbox One query from Twitch streamer TimTheTatMan, Valorant lead designer, Trevor Romelski, said that Riot Games are open to exploring other platforms.

“Our focus right now is on PC,” said Romelski (via Dexerto). “We’re open to exploring new opportunities for other platforms, but for the time being what our current focus is, is on the PC platform.”

This doesn’t guarantee that Valorant will eventually land on PS4 and Xbox One, but at least it’s a statement which doesn’t officially rule out the move.

Although it could land on Sony and Microsoft’s current-gen consoles, if it were to become available on other platforms you’d expect the PS5 and Xbox Series X to be a part of Riot Games’ plans.

However, that’s all speculative thinking as the free-to-play game is only confirmed for PC as of now.

Original story:

Riot Games have announced that Project A is Valorant. This first-person shooter multiplayer experience will be free-to-play when it launches on PC in the summer. However, as is commonplace with most PC titles, a lot of PlayStation 4 and Xbox One gamers want to know if there are any plans for it to be released on consoles.

Although only just announced, Valorant has already been compared to Counter-Strike Global Offensive and Overwatch. While it’s up to you to decide whether these comparisons are worthy or as lazy as the ‘it’s just like Dark Souls’ remark, Riot Games’ FPS does sound promising and enjoyable thanks to its pitched strategic gameplay having an emphasis on creativity via hypernatural abilities.

It’s slated to come out in the summer on PC, but will it land on PS4 and/or Xbox One afterwards?

Will Valorant be on PS4 and Xbox One?

Valorant hasn’t been announced for PS4 or Xbox One (Update: Riot Games have said they’re open to other platforms).

As of writing, Valorant isn’t coming to either PS4 or Xbox One as it has only been announced for PC in the summer.

Unfortunately, there’s also nothing at this moment in time to suggest that it will definitely make the transition to consoles afterwards.

If Riot’s free-to-play FPS shooter is to land on consoles at some unspecified date, it would most likely be on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X as opposed to their current-gen siblings.

However, this is nothing more than an assumption, so don’t treat it as an official declaration that Valorant is coming to the PS5 or Xbox Series X.
